In 2019, after a mere five months in office, Adil Abdul-Mahdi resigned as the Prime Minister of Iraq. For months now, Iraq has been left without a PM. This has proven to be especially hard on the country given the current war on coronavirus.

There have been at least ten potential candidates for PM in Iraq since Madhi’s early departure, one of them being Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. Nominated by the Iraqi President of the Republic, Kadhimi has been tasked with forming a new government within the first 30-days in office.
Although seemingly impossible, Kadhimi and the Iraqi people are optimistic about the future. Kahimi took to Twitter earlier this week and said, "Iraq faces economic, health and security challenges. I will form a cabinet to tackle these crises and find solutions. I will only accept what is in the true interest of Iraq, and reject any pressure aimed at undermining it. We should all prioritize what is best for our country." Kadhimi seems to have the interest of the people top-of-mind.

Iraqi people seem confident in Kadhimi's ability to deliver on his promises. On Twitter citizens of Iraq, tweet kind regards to the announcement of Kadhimi's PM designation.

Unfortunately, not all Iraqi citizens seem to agree with Kadhimi's motives.
