Even from the whirlwind of collusion in the destination of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Iraq national team is proving that they belong in the cup. It has been 36 years since the last Iraq national team made it to the World cup. What makes this team special is not only their star player Ali Adnan, but the support from the Iraq nation has sparked optimism in the nation’s soccer team.

Adnan comments on the change of energy from the Iraq nation after their key win over rival Iran, “Everyone knows that Iraqis haven’t had it easy in recent times and, at that point, people were usually scared to go out at night. But when we won the Asian Cup, everyone went out on the streets – and it felt like everyone stuck together more after that point. It really meant a lot. The people back home all still talk about that team now.”
The Iraq national team still has some games left in their group C section with contests in June and July. Will the Iraq national team bring more surprises to the table with their remarkable start to FIFA World Cup Qualifying?
