"We can't have, like, willy-nilly proliferation of fake news. That's crazy. You can't have more types of fake news than real news. That's allowing public deception to go unchecked. That's crazy." - Elon Musk

The rise of social media and the fall of traditional news
The global news section of my blog will uncover the stories social media and the news don't want you to find out about in Iraq. Historically, Iraq has been plagued with a corrupt government, poor economy, and differing religious beliefs. This blog will explore these topics further and how they are portrayed in the media/news.
Why Iraq?
At 16 years old, my father Ahmad became a first time American citizen. Before arriving in America, he spent countless nights at refugee camps in Iraq and other countries in the Middle East. His brother and father were both sadly killed on his journey to America. My Dad was the sole survivor from his family escape to America.
In 1996, my mother and father met, got married, and had me. Then in 1999, they had my sister and things started to take a turn for the worst. It is no secret that there are many cultural and religious differences between America and Iraq. Shortly after my parents had my sister, it became apparent that their beliefs and values differed too greatly to make things work. My mom a strong Christian woman and my dad a proud Muslim decided to divorce.
My mom won full custody of my sister and me. From the time I was four years old to now, I have seen my Dad fewer times than I have fingers. I am half Iraqi, yet know very little about my ancestor's culture, traditions, and happenings. I am constantly curious about that part of my heritage.
I am going to use this opportunity to learn more about my ancestors and the Iraqi people. I will be exploring many different topics to try and understand Iraq through a global lens.
