3 of 8 US bases in Iraq will be pulling out of the area of the Syria and Iran borders. After the US drone strike on the Iran Commander Soleimani, Iran has launched several missile strikes on US bases in Iraq.

With more pressure occurring from more than one enemy, it seems like more US bases in Iraq will soon follow. Therefore leaving their “political footprint” out of the tense warfare state of Iraq.

A recent BBC news article stated, “At least 25 rocket attacks, unleashing more than 160 individual rockets, have hit US bases in Iraq since October 2019.”

Although pulling out of bases may benefit US Union Troops, it leaves Iraq in an uncomfortable state of being caught between two neighboring enemies of Syria and Iran. Maybe pulling out of US bases can be the answer to this problem.

Many countries, even allies, prefer for the US to have a presence elsewhere. This article also stated, “The future of these remaining troops is not certain. The US hopes its relationship with Iraq's security forces is far from over, but many in Iraq think America has outstayed its welcome.” That being said, it is hard to know for sure what will come of the US relations with Iraq after recent events.
